Youths at “Kopitiam” Talk on Naturalisation of Foreign Talents

PAYM Policy Forum @ Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC

As the dark clouds filled the Saturday afternoon skies, it was a heavy downpour that lasted for hours.  Yet, the rain did not douse some 80 youths’ interest to be part of the engaging discussion on the “Naturalisation of Foreign Talents”.

Organised by the Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC CC Youth Executive Committees (YECs) at Seng Kang Community Hub on Saturday, 11 November 2006, it was the inaugural People’s Association Youth Movement (PAYM) Policy Forum Series.  This marked the first of the series of policy forums for youths to gain a better insight of current issues and national policies.  During the forums, the youths will be able to gain a better understanding on the rationale, constraints and benefits of implementing the policies.  Besides networking, they will also have the opportunity to voice out their views and share their ideas with the people involved in formulating, planning and implementing policies.

The panelists for “Naturalisation of Foreign Talents” comprised Mr Michael Palmer, Member of Parliament to Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC and Adviser to PAYM Central Youth Council and representatives from the National Population Secretariat and Immigration and Checkpoints Authority. A presentation on Singapore’s Population Challenge was shared with the participants where thereafter, they had an engaging exchange among the group.

The PAYM ' s Policy Forum entitled “Globalisation: How Can Singaporeans Stay Afloat?” was held on 23 June 2007 at The Arts House by Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC.

It was hosted by Mr Zainudin Nordin, Member of Parliament for Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC and Mayor of Central Singapore District,  with Mr Sanjit Singh, Chairman of Capability Building Committee and Finance Committee of the Central Singapore CDC, Ms Cindy Ong, Director of Monroe Consulting Group Pte Ltd and Ms Agnes Kwek, General Manager of the Central Singapore CDC as the panellist.
