International Exchange Programme

PAYM CYC Singapore-Kagoshima Youth Exchange Programme

The exchange programme between the youths of Singapore and Kagoshima was initiated by the Japan Council of Local Authorities for International Relations, Singapore (CLAIR), with the first of the series taking place in November 2000 when 20 Japanese youths visited Singapore.  Since then, the exchange programme has been led by Singapore and Japan in alternate years.

Some of the activities in the exchange programme include visits to educational institutions and places of interest, cultural exchange with youth groups and a home stay programme.    Through the homestays and the interactive activities planned by Kagoshima, the Singaporean youths can get to mingle with the local youths, experience different cultures and engage in global dialogues.   Lasting friendships were borne from these exchanges where the participating youths continued to contact one another.

Strengthening its youth groups through international exchange is one of the PAYM's firm beliefs. As such, the PAYM will continue to develop and enhance its existing network and extend contacts with overseas youth organisations to develop meaningful and self-sustaining exchange programmes for the PAYM members.

PAYM CYC Singapore -Fukuoka Youth Exchange Programme

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between PAYM and the Fukuoka Tsubasa Youth Association in April 2002 saw the beginning of intriguing and enriching visits to the both countries. Hosted biennially by each country, the exchange programme kick-started in 2004 where the Fukuoka delegates visited Singapore. During the eight-days exchange, the Japanese delegates visited other divisions of the People’s Association like NACLI, Social Development Unit and the National Youth Council. Also, they were also able to visit historical and cultural sites like the Singapore Art Museum and the Sri Mariamman Temple. The Singapore youths hosted the Japanese counterparts in their homes for two-days and were able to experience the local Singaporeans’ lifestyles.

In 2005, the Singaporean youths visited the Fukuoka counterparts. Similarly, the Singapore delegates visited many cultural sites of interest like the Hakata Historical Museum and the Shrine Kushida during the seven-days visit. They also visited the Fukuoka City Hall. During the exchange, the Singaporean youths enjoyed warm hospitality from the youths and their host family during the homestay programme. Experience of such enriched the lives of these youths and friendships have been firmly established even though they are a quarter of the globe away.

PAYM CYC Singapore – Shanghai Youth Exchange Programme

Since 2001, the People’s Association Youth Movement (PAYM) and the Shanghai Youth Federation (SYF) has established a strong relationship and collaborated on programmes for the youths from both countries. The PAYM and the SYF signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), first in June 2001 and was again renewed in November 2005, both for a five-year period. As part of the MOU, three programmes have strengthened the strategic alliances and created various platforms for the youth leaders of the two organisations to work hand in hand.

Every year, youth delegates from both countries visited each other on the PAYM CYC Singapore - Shanghai Youth Exchange Programme. Through the five-day exchange programme, the delegates gained insightful experiences through institutional visits and visits to national and historical sites. The youths from both countries also established strong friendships amongst themselves.
